McCain's big purge

The Arizona senator’s team has been ridding the state’s GOP apparatus of his tea party foes.

“He was very unhappy with the censure and wanted to make sure it never happened again (but does not intend to cease the activities that he was censured for),” said Mike Hellon, McCain’s deputy campaign manager in 2010.

Shocking. McCain is a statist douche bag? Too bad my fellow Arizona residents can't seem to figure that out and keep on sending him back to Washington.

Wonderful! approaching Obama levels of hubris. Rather than doing as his constituents wish and representing them, which is, well, his job, he decides to silence them and destroy their advocates by waging a political war of attrition against them. How DARE they dislike it when he does the opposite of what they want, after all he knows what's best for them. As a former service member, normally you get a certain level of respect by being one yourself, and maybe more for being a POW, but this guy has used up any latitude I might have assigned and caused me consider that I probably wouldn't piss in his mouth if his teeth were on fire.

While I did vote for McCain in 2010, I only expected one useful vote from him: voting against Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader. Somehow, he managed to clear that low bar; any random pro-liberty votes he's made in the Senate since then have been a bonus.

Meanwhile, here in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District, I felt that Martha McSally was likely an ally of the Establishment Republican party. As such, I was inclined either to stay home or to vote Libertarian, rather than vote for McSally.

Then, Gabby Giffords' group spent over $2,000,000 on behalf of the Dem incumbent.

Given that McSally only won by 167 votes, I can't help but wonder whether Giffords' spending was responsible for McSally's margin of victory....

McCain spent over $26 million to buy his election last time. A combination of left over presidential run money and his multi millionaire beer heiress wife's money. He also collects big donations from the military industrial complex whom he represents so well. He is like a mafia godfather in the way he deals with would be Republican opponents.
