Could that mean, that come the day, there will be new rifles laying around for the taking? I'm not a fan of an M4 but I could maybe trade it for some taters or a bottle of hooch.

If colt does this they are slapping every American in the face. They in effect slit their own throat as well. Of course this only matters if they are not vampires!

302 bucks? Colt is gonna admit that it can PROFIT on these rifles selling them at 300 bucks? While Americans get bent over at 3 4 even 5 times that?

Either I ain't understanding something here or the gubmint just baited colt into something suicidal. Regardless, proof is in the pudding - COLT!

The added information is a wee but helpful.

So now the shoe turns to governments foot (with manufacturers still on the hook) if select fire rifles can be produced and sold for under fifteen hundred bucks just errr why are select fires going for fifteen GRAND in the errrr civilian market (limited as it artificially is).

The additional information added to the source page does make a lot more sense but it it at the same time demonstrates how manufacturers are selling us out and our rights out.

Ronnie had the proper attitude. Manufacturers should step up - refusing to sell government at ALL levels what governments turn around and place out of reach for Citizens (either by direct ban OR artificial and arbitrary cost increases ranging from tax stamps to market limitations stopping increased supply.

Folks. It's time to call out those who arm the government that disarms us!

There is something wrong with the numbers here. $1311.84 is the cost per M4 rifle for a total order of 305 rifles. Last year, the Remington contract for the U.S. Army that was challenged by Colt was at around $641 per M4 rifle. Costing of individual parts that contribute to an assembled rifle support the under $700 cost, which is not subject to the 11% U.S. Excise Tax:

$90 lower receiver
$100 lower parts kit with M4 stock
$115 bolt carrier group
$300 barreled upper receiver assembly
$20 charging handle
-------------------
$625 Total

That was single unit pricing of the components without volume discounts that a manufacture such as Colt receives when purchasing components.

Looking at www.gunbroker.com pricing today, you or I can purchase a Colt LE6940 rifle for $1300, which includes the excise tax. A Colt LE6920 costs under $850. That price allows Colt, the distributor, and the FFL to profit. I also saw another manufacturer selling a chrome lined barrel M4 style rifle "like Colt 6920" for $620. Go figure, literally.

BTW, the parts cost differential between a selective fire design and a semi-auto only design are too small to worry about in this discussion.
