Killer Tomato Cass Sunstein thinks Chinese indoctrination system is just peachy.

(R)ecent curricular reforms in China, explicitly designed to transform students’ political views, have mostly worked. The findings offer remarkable evidence about the potential influence of the high school curriculum on what students end up thinking. . . The crucial finding from the study is that the new curriculum greatly affected students’ thinking. They became more likely to count the Chinese political system as democratic. They displayed a higher level of trust in public officials. They were more skeptical of free markets, and more likely to reject the view that a market economy is preferable to any other economic system. . .

This is why one of the first things Lincoln and the North made sure happened after Lee surrendered was mandatory governement school in the South. Prior to that, school was done at home with tutors and reading on their own for the most part.

It is also the same reason the Pledge of Allegiance was written. A socialist wanted to make sure kids did not get any funny ideas about states or cities seceding from the all powerful governement. In Nazi Germany, school was also mandatory for the same reasons.

The point? Homeschool your kids. It is the only long term solution and way for us to defeat the statists. Overcoming the brainwashing of the school system is almost impossible for most people, so avoid it.

This is one area Ron Paul is talking about that I wish more people would follow up on and discuss because he is completely correct.

"You can't make Socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming where everyone is interdependent."
-- John Dewey, reformer of the American public school system

"For more than 220 years - from the 1620s to the 1840s - most American schooling was independent of government control, subsidy, and influence. From this educational freedom the American Republic was born."
-- Marshall Fritz
"And what is a good citizen? Simply one who never says, does or thinks anything that is unusual. Schools are maintained in order to bring this uniformity up to the highest possible point. A school is a hopper into which children are heaved while they are still young and tender; therein they are pressed into certain standard shapes and covered from head to heels with official rubber-stamps."
-- H.L.Mencken
"It's time to admit that public education operates like a planned economy, a bureaucratic system in which everybody's role is spelled out in advance and there are few incentives for innovation and productivity. It's no surprise that our school system doesn't improve: It more resembles the communist economy than our own market economy"
-- Albert Shanker, president, American Federation of Teachers, The Wall Street Journal, "Reding, Wrighting & Erithmatic," 2 October 1989

"A general state education is a mere contrivance for molding people to be exactly like one another: and as the mold in which it casts them is that which pleases the predominant power in the government or the majority of the existing generation; in proportion as it is efficient and successful, it establishes a despotism over the mind, leading by natural tendency to one over the body."
-- John Stuart Mill

Would somebody explain to me why this man is still consuming oxygen?

"Would somebody explain to me why this man is still consuming oxygen?"

At one point in my career my employer included in our mandatory training a video tape on violence in the workplace. I gathered they were against it. The only other thing I retained was one of the cut scenes from the tape's intro was of an urban bus bench with the following sprayed on it graffiti style:

"Some men are alive only because it is illegal to kill them."

Perhaps someone else can come up with a more satisfying answer for you. That one works for me.
