Can you hear it yet? The Long Roll of William Diamond's Drum

The Long Roll: (Mil.) A prolonged roll of the drums, as the signal of an attack by the enemy, and for the troops to arrange themselves in line.
"And having met at the place of our company's parade., [we] were dismissed by our captain, John Parker, for the present, with orders to be ready to attend at the beat of the drum." -- Deposition of Lexington Minuteman Nathaniel Mulliken.
After a restless night of alarms, counsels, musters and dismissals of militia, mysterious couriers, intelligence and counter-intelligence, a forty-five-year-old veteran of Rogers' Rangers in the French and Indian wars, Captain John Parker, commanding the Lexington minutemen, directed his drummer boy to go across the road to the Common and beat the call to arms. And when William Diamond, bringing the enthusiasm of his sixteen years to the beating of his gaily emblazoned drum, rolled out the call to the village's minutemen, the War of the American Revolution began. . . As William Diamond continued to beat the call on his drum, the Lexington minutemen perhaps thirty of them assembled on the Common. Captain Parker directed Orderly Sergeant William Munroe to form the men in ranks. . .
The rolling beat of William Diamond's drum began to drown out, in the ears of the approaching British, the soft thud of their own marching feet on the unpaved roadway. Aware that the drum was sounding a military assembly, the British officers halted their troops, the light infantry in front and the grenadiers in the rear. Orders were given to stop, prime and load their guns, double their ranks, and then to proceed again at double-quick time. -- William Diamond's Drum by Arthur Bernon Tourtellot.
William Diamond's drum is sounding the long roll once again, and it doesn't take much imagination to hear it. As the collectivists in the Federal government attempt to roll the Dead Elephant Party into banning the private sale of arms (and it looks like it won't take much effort), states like New York, Colorado and New Mexico are rushing headlong into their own versions of the same Intolerable Acts. We are thus confronted with the end of what Claire Wolfe called "the awkward stage."
"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." – 101 Things to Do 'Til the Revolution (1996)
The enforcement of these various odious, unconstitutional laws -- whether state or federal -- will be resisted, flaunted and then Leviathan, which can't afford to look silly, will come to kill us for our temerity.
This is not paranoia, but merely the natural order of things in our new collectivist state of Amerika. Don't believe me? Ask a Davidian, if you can find one still alive.
For understand, what we seek is not a revolution, but a counter-revolution -- against the collectivists who have been hacking, gnawing and biting at the supports of the Founder's Republic and their vision of the rule of law for over a century. Like the Founders, we -- who only wish to be left alone with our liberty and property intact -- must seek a restoration of their vision and secure our liberty once more for ourselves and our posterity.
(By 19 April 1775), revolution in the minds of the people of Lexington had already been almost fully achieved. The revolt was of a philosophic nature, skillfully and positively phrased in philosophic terms and on the whole neither inflammatory nor overly emotional in either content or language. The public papers of Lexington, tracing the evolution of the town's opinion, are great state papers, written in the neat orderly hand of Jonas Clarke; and they paralleled, when they did not actually anticipate, the great papers of the colonies as a federation. In the opinion of Lexington there was little doubt left that Britain by her acts had shattered her own traditions, dating from the barons at Runnymede, of a free society. In the Coercive Acts of 1774 (which, in addition to closing the port of Boston, revoked the Massachusetts charter, transferred trials to England or to other colonies, and quartered soldiers on the inhabitants without their permission) the people of Lexington saw the revolution as really one launched by the British Parliament against a wholly British heritage. And in their minds the movement in the colonies, all their acts and resolves, was a counterrevolution to restore centuries-old freedoms and safeguards against tyranny. . .
But it was clear to Jonas Clarke and thus to his townsmen, as events progressed, that no debate of the issues was to lead to any final solution. The ministry of Lord North was proceeding as if it had nothing but contempt for colonial opinion and was bankrupt of any expedient but force. The reaction in Lexington was inevitable. Having already concluded, "We shall be ready to sacrifice our estates and everything dear in life, yea and life itself, in support of the common cause," they voted at last, abandoning faith in the power of reason for the comfort of practical measures, to strengthen their arms and militia with "a suitable quantity of flints . . . two pieces of cannon ... (and) a pair of drums."
One of those was young William Diamond's drum, upon which he beat the long roll and ushered in what we now call the American Revolution but which was, in fact, a glorious counter-revolution against a corrupt regime in violation of its own English Constitution.
Today, William Diamond's drum again beats the long roll. We do not seek a civil war, but one is being thrust upon us. If we do not now stand, then when will we? We must defy these intolerable acts, whatever their source, and challenge the collectivist revolutionaries to come work their will upon us if they do not like it -- and they most assuredly won't. We must give a final rattle of the tail before striking. They may pass whatever "laws" they wish, then watch what happens when they try to enforce them. The next moves will be up to them. May God have mercy on their corrupt, heathen murderous souls, for they are unlikely to receive any in the ghastly civil conflict their tyrannical appetites seem to crave.

Like "Unintended Consequences" before it, "Absolved" would go a long way towards opening eyes. Eyes that we will need opened. Wonderful article. Thank you.

I dispair that we are at that "awkward" stage. While I will continue to work at restoring the republic using peaceful political means, I do not believe that route will be successful as the government is too corrupt and full of hubris at this point.

I believe widespread passive resistance will force the government to act. Either as Canada did - repealing much of the most offensive legislation, or as happened earlier in US history where an oppressive and corrupt government tried to use force and sparked a civil war.

I think our next "civil" war will be much less "civil" and that the government has no idea of the horrors that will be unleashed. Ultimately I believe the people will win but the cost on both sides will be high.

Go read: A PLACE CALLED WACO, by David Thibodeau.

He is one of the few who survived to tell the story of what the fedgov did.

Haven't verified this source, but it seems a PA police chief is sounding the drum roll:

Very inspiring and thought provoking. I actually got a little choked up reading it. Can't believe no one else has commented yet. Have we finally arrived at The Line In The Sand? If so, where the hell is everyone else?

Leviathan has been nurtured into a monster by bootlicking the Standing Army, i.e., "supporting the military."

“What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty...” ~Rep. Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, spoken during floor debate over the Second Amendment, I Annals of Congress at 750, August 17, 1789

Two birds with one stone.
Massive gov stockpiling that also creates massive shortages and price hikes for civilian customers.
Perhaps the LAPD should get a hefty amount of that "practice" ammo in order to develop a greater degree of trigger control.

For their myth of "saving one life," they will gladly kill us all. `

It doesn't seem possible so many people can be that insane.

But, of course, none of this is really about saving any life. It's all about control. Every word, deed and thought that proceeds out of Mordor, and all those who serve Sauron.

"They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance, by lying supinely on our backs, and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us." ~ Patrick Henry, March 1775

They are pushing us into civil war. We need to be sure we're ready to resist.

Thanks, your blog posts are always spot on.I have been wondering-what is the last straw going to be?How did the Patriots know when it was time? How long should we wait, how much more can we take?
I agree,we're about there, and I hope enough feel the same.

Funny,my word verification is "...now"

Are y'all ready for the hell you are calling down? DO NOT for one second belive that this "government" will not use every wepon it has to stop the resistance. The first time a "patriot" group wins a scurmish with the FEDs/LEOs we WILL see airstrikes, attacks by military forces, forced "internment" (PUBLIC SAFETY / FOR THE CHILDREN!!!) and coldblooded murder of ANYONE not giveing instant obedeance to the new "masters". IF we manage to win a major fight; AND/OR; IF ANY military forces join the "freefor" , I GARENTEE that nervegas and nukes will be on the table. The communest that have taken over will NEVER let go of power while they have the ability to kill us. AND They are MORE than willing to kill just as many as they need too retain power. Don't delude yourselves, We fight and every man, woman , child and christain baby are maked for death. If we fight we have to win. IF we do not win "they" will hunt down every one of "us" and kill us all.-- Y'all better think on this too; the "government" will not care in any way how many die, ours or theres. This CW-2 starts and it will be a bloodbath far worse than ww-2. This gets rolling and y'all will find out what "hell on earth" realy means.

You forget to mention, NOT all those in their command will
follow orders.
I estimate more than half will stand down and join the Republic Resistance Forces.
The "machine" wont be as powerful as you paint them.
If we fail due to faint heartlessness now, we'll most assuredly Die anyway...
If they achieve their goals, Real Americans will become hunted, harassed, and killed anyway.
Read their manifesto- it's the
weather underground that we're about to fight and the "boy" is their front man.
Why make it easy for them, besides what have you got to lose?
What are they going to threaten you with, HEAVEN?
If we decline our morally charged responsibilities.
Our children, should they survive, would have every right to urinate on the graves of those who
shirked their Patriotic Charge.

My only question is when? When will there be a highly public gun show, complete with private transfers, in any of these states, after the laws take effect? Until such an event is staged, and is highly public, it's all just talk.

We must dare them to act. Notice I said "must" and not "should."

Paraclete, The Freefor has this strange fantisy. They seem to belive that people that serve this government NOW will somehow majicly come over to our side just cause we are so very---- pick you reason. Hears a little fact check; NO US MILITARY unit in US history Has Ever disobayed an order to attack civilians-NOT ONE-NOT EVER. As too the civil war analogy of the military deserting to join the freefor-SO WHAT- That makes the scum in DC no less evil, and no less ruthless. It WILL make them far more dangerous. Mike has asked this of the "government" "How many are you willing to kill?" The short anser is; ALL OF US. No one in the freefor seems to want to see this, they WILL kill us ALL before they let us win. I AM NOT saying "Don't fight" or even "don't fight now" .What I AM saying is; We MUST get this right. We will only get one chance. We need to get reality based ; and right now we are NOT. We have built a fantisy that the military and Law enforcement will somehow majicly wake up one morning and be our buddies. That by some unknown path we will march to VICTORY, and a gloryous new America. That somehow "Men of goodwill" will come forward and "make thing right" IF you belive ANY of that we have allready lost.- Y'all need to have a meeting, bring the wife and kidds, now look around that room and remember this;IF Civil WAR breaks out 90+% of the people in that room WILL die within six WEEKS, and there is not one thing you can do about it. Are y'all willing to pay that bill? Maybe we should THINK- BEFORE Armoggedon. AND FYI IMO War is comeing SOON we have no choice but to fight, but I belive war will destroy us forever as a nation ,and maybee as a civilisation.

If history teaches us anything, it is that provocation is how conflict starts. And, after the "other side" is provoked, the agression that ensues is blamed on the ones who were provoked. i.e. civil war, ww1, ww2, vietnam, current unrest all around the world. We will be goaded...that is what all this is about; they are waiting for us to get to a breaking point - fire the first shot (either figuratively, or literally). I wouldn't be as concerned about the bullets the feds bought as drone attacks. Their civilian / children practice targets are in Syria and Pakistan, coming to a neighborhood near you. We won't win with fire power, hate to break it to y'all. We need to stop this "divide and conquer" technique they are using, dem v. rep, conserv v. lib, right v. left, etc. and WAKE PEOPLE UP to TRUTH. They divide, deceive and distract. We need to unite, inform, and make people pay attention! Great blog, btw...
